Analytics Reduce Water Utility Losses

Top-down audits reveal that many water utilities losing large percentages of their water every month. Traditional thinking is that most of this water is real losses through leaks. However, a major portion of total losses are often attributable to apparent losses, and in particular under-registering customer meters. A state-wide survey in Texas revealed roughly 40% of total losses state-wide being attributed to under-registering meters. Where should a utility focus it’s time and resources towards making improvements?

The Meter Assurance Program establishes a statistical model of the accuracy of the utility’s meter inventory based on randomized testing of the utility’s meters and our industry data consortium which allows utilities and other member companies to share anonymous data for purposes of increasing predictive power. Understand the make, model, age and total gallons registered for your meter inventory. Then target meters for replacement based on the MAP score; predicting the likelihood of an under-registering meter.

Customer Notifications

Communicate effortlessly with your customers to notify them of past due amounts, pending cut-offs, possible leaks, maintenance, outages and more. Deliver personalized messages via email, text/sms and phone. Our location-aware mobile app allows customer service and field repair teams to communicate with customers based on physical proximity. No costly hardware or phone lines required.

Customer Messaging and Field Intelligence
Our mobile Field Intelligence app puts powerful customer research and communication capabilities in the hands of your field employees, and it provides a simple mechanism for tracking field crews without expensive, dedicated hardware or communication contracts. Use iPads, Android tablets and your laptops to improve the efficiency of your field operations.

And of course it’s not just mobile messaging; communicate effortlessly with all of your customers to notify them of past due amounts, pending cut-offs, possible leaks, maintenance, outages and more. Maintain positive customer relationships while streamlining the communication process; many messages and calls can be configured for auto-send, and our analytic engine learns your customers ‘normal’ usage patterns and automatically notifies them when possible leaks occur.

Water Loss Reduction

Analyze the data from your billing, AMR/AMI, work-order and other systems to develop a robust understanding of your distribution network. Randomly sample meters and model the results to gain insight into Apparent Losses and under-registering meters.  Feed data from your SCADA network into our pattern recognition system; we’ll monitor your network and raise automated alerts when we detect leaks and other anomalies.

Conservation Programs
Our unique “Water Score” technology puts you in control of a water usage score-card system that produces a green, yellow or red flag for each of your customers. This score helps inform your customer about his/her water usage and helps the utility target conservation messaging at the proper customers. The Water Score is based on statistics derived from the utility’s meter data with utility-controlled business rules being used to “tune” the score and the associated message codes or statements. Embedded in your web site and delivered through our email service every month, the Water Score helps keep water conservation “front of mind” for your customers.

Using these scores, you can focus on customers who are using a lot of water or whose consumption is trending towards using more water in the future. In addition to the Water Score, you can tailor your message based on demographic information that our services matches to your customer records. For example, by matching county appraisal data to the utility’s location records, customers with large yards and swimming pools can be identified and targeted with appropriate and relevant conservation messages that other clients don’t need to receive. Tailored, proactive and regular communication with your customers has never been this easy.

Field Intelligence

The Field Intelligence app puts powerful customer research and communication capabilities in the hands of your field employees. Use smart phones, tablets and laptops to improve communication between your field crews, your back office and your customers. Select impacted customers from a map and send automated service notifications from the field.

High Volume Data Integration
The proliferation of smart metering devices, SCADA and other network-enabled sensor devices is resulting in an explosion of data volumes in water utilities everywhere. But many utilities are still dealing with a variety of built-for-task systems that cannot integrate or ‘talk with each other.’ We can help you get all of your internal systems connected and then augment that information with available public and commercial data sources.

Analysis and Modeling Warehouse
Your database is the foundation upon which your decision automation strategy is built. Our cloud-based data warehouse is simple and fast to implement; you’ll start seeing results in a couple of weeks, not months or years like with many projects.

Utility Information Dashboards
You, your customers and your engineers can all view relevant information though the RG3 Analytics dashboard, or you can embed our analytic widgets into your existing software or web-site.

Event-based Alerts
Our algorithms watch your data stream and react intelligently. Analytic models and business rule management technologies allow massive volumes of sensor data to be handled correctly, every time, with minimal human intervention.

System and Workflow Integration
We can integrate with your existing systems, allowing us to apply analytic intelligence to data coming from your existing operational workflow systems and then push these ‘decisions’ back into the existing systems. For example, we can examine your meter inventory and usage history data to predict which meters should be replaced next and then create work orders in your system to initiate the work.
